The 32nd Annual Hilton Head Island St. Patrick\'s Day Parade
Founded in 1983 by local business icon Tom Reilley and a few friends and family, the Hilton Head Island St. Patrick’s Day Parade has grown to become one of Hilton Head Island’s most beloved and popular annual events. Upwards of 25,000 spectators (in a town of approximately 40,000 permanent residents) line Pope Avenue each spring to enjoy floats and marching groups representing local businesses and charities, high school and university marching bands, the U.S. Marine Corps Band from Parris Island, pipe and drum bands, a procession of local dignitaries, and the always popular Shriners with their hilarious antics. Over the years the Parade has also featured the iconic Budweiser Clydesdales, military jet flyovers, and Nashville recording star Michelle Murray among other special attractions. Our parade was been recognized in 2002 as one of the Top 20 Tourism Events in the Southeast. This is a wonderful honor and our community is very proud. In 2013 the Parade received a commendation from

Beaufort Beauties
Join Main Street Beaufort, USA as local men put their best ‘heel’ forward by dressing as women and compete in a beauty pageant to raise money for 4 local charities. The event will be hosted by a special guest host (to be announced). This fun event will be held at a location to be announced at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. To fill you in on the whole concept, we are asking influential men in the community to ask friends, neighbors, and business partners to support them monetarily and dress as women for a show we’ll never forget. Their goal is to raise $1,000 that will be donated to the efforts of Main Street Beaufort, USA as well as other Beaufort based charities. Miss Congeniality will be crowned according to the man/woman that raises the most money. The event itself will be like a real beauty pageant with an opening choreographed number, talent show, evening gown competition, and one-on-one interviews. This year’s contestants will be announced closer to the date. The $25.00

2013 Beaufort International Film Festival
The mission of the Beaufort Film Festival is to enliven our community by fostering and developing a rich appreciation for the art of filmmaking. In 2007 the Beaufort Regional Film Commission presented the inaugural Beaufort Film Festival. The purpose of the festival is to recognize aspiring filmmakers of almost every genre to include independent film, music, animation, short and long features, documentaries, and screenwriting. It is also an opportunity to showcase the beautiful \"film-friendly\" region of Beaufort and the Carolina Sea Islands. For the past quarter of a century Beaufort has served as the backdrop for more than 20 major motion pictures, to include Forrest Gump, The Big Chill, The Prince of Tides, and many more. Through this festival we will reintroduce our sweeping marsh vistas, antebellum homes, and quiet charm of the old south to a new generation of filmmakers.

\"The Misanthrope\" by Molière in the black box theater @ ARTworks
What\'s worse than being the only (self-proclaimed) honest man in a world of liars, gossips, and fools? Being head-over-heels in love with the chief offender among them. \"The Misanthrope\" follows the hilariously thorny love-life of the irascible Alceste and the coquettish Célimène, who put the concept of \"opposites attract\" to the ultimate test. \"The Misanthrope\" is produced by Palmetto Theater Xperiment and directed by J.W. Rone, from an original translation by Beaufortonian Daniel H. Daniels from the 1600s French verse. November 8-10 at 7:30pm; November 11 at 3pm; November 15-17 at 7:30pm; November 18 at 3pm. Scottish Games and Highland Gathering
On the third Saturday in September, as we have for many years, we will bring Boone Hall Plantation, just across the Cooper River from Charleston, to life with the sights and sounds of the Scottish Games and Highland Gathering. Over the years, we have added a variety of things to better the experience and the enjoyment, including bleacher style seating for the viewing of the heavy athletics, the border collie demonstrations, the 20 plus piping bands, the mass bands, and the many other activities on the field. We do it for charity, for the Scottish Society of Charleston, Inc., and for the many people and Scottish friends who seek to gather their clans and to enjoy the full day of wonderment. Each year, we strive to bring more and better Scottish and Celtic entertainment in the form of musicians and dancers to enrich the experience and we think that we have succeeded. The enjoyment includes the grounds and house of Boone Hall Plantation, without further cost, for those who want to vie

World Grits Festival
Good gawd, ya\'ll, grits have gone Up Town.That\'s right! Americans eat about 100 million pounds of grits each year. And that\' s not all consumed south of the Mason-Dixon line. In fact, grits are eaten in every state of the Union, usually by Southerners who have been transplanted there. Anything as popular as grits deserves its own annual festival. So each April the good folks of St. George, S.C., stage their annual World Grits Festival which draws tens of thousands of grits lovers, and some of the curious, to their town about an hour west of Charleston. The highlight of the festival has to the Rolling in the Grits competition. A kiddie pool is filled with cooked grits and contestants dive in and coat themselves with as much grits as possible in 10 seconds. Contestants wear big hats and loose pants with lots of pockets because the person with the most pounds of grits on his or her body wins the $75 first prize. Thousands of words have been written about grits, some of it n
